Mr Abdulqadir Mohamad Suleiman, a chief engineer with the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority with long experience in workplace inspection took us through the steps of work domain analysis, the first of  five phases of Cognitive Work Analysis.

Webinar 9: Health and Wellness at Work

Many workers develop work-related sickness during their work-life. However, it is possible to put these health challenges on check with simple  programs that will improve both the physical and psychosocial health of the workers. The speaker in this webinar is Dr Anne Njuguna, who, with her many years as a senior resident treating occupational diseases, has a passion for workers’ wellness programs, and in building employers’ commitment, motivation and resilience in the workplaces.

Social partners play a role in the implementation of OSH requirement. Dr Balfour, the Head of Health Department of the Minerals Council, South Africa, addressed in this webinar, cooperation between social partners in improving occupational safety and health.

Webinar7: Safe shift schemes, work hours, employees’ health and safety performance

In everyday’s work life, there is a constant demand to increase production, or something always coming up that we have to complete by the end of the working day, or within a specified deadline. To be able to accomplish the “little extra” we have to repeatedly extend our working hours. For others, they have to do their work in shifts. But what do the extended working hours and shift work do to our health? What are the consequences of working overtime on regular basis?  Dr Elisabeth Goffeng from the National Institute of Occupational Health, Norway, discussed in this 7th webinar issue of shift work and extended work hours, and workers’ health.

Webinar 6: Mental health at work – understanding bullying, harassment and their effects on workers

Bullying and harassment, are among critical workplace psychosocial hazards affecting the workers’ mental well-being. However, these are issues hardly addressed in OSH management. Ms Wafiyyah Hamid, MA Clinical Psychology, with a demonstrated history of working in the mental health care industry, took us through how these factors affect the workers’ mental health, and what to look for among the workers to identify mental health challenges in the workplaces.

 Workplace regulations give some directions on what is expected of the workplace. The question is whether complying with the regulation serves as a confirmation of workers occupational safety and health. We invited Dr Andrew Muruka to address the issue on the role and significance of regulatory compliance in promotion of workers occupational safety and health.
